I may have painted myself into a corner. I am trying to solve a video editing workflow problem. I have to post videos to YouTube from an event and have the following tools to work with: Panasonic HDC TM700P, Vegas Movie Studio HD 9.0 (yes, the cheap one) running on a new but wimpy ASUS laptop with a Centrino processor. Yes, it's a recipe for disappointment. (Oh to have my Mac and FC, but I can't take it with.)
I have managed to transfer footage from the Panny to the computer via the SD card. (I shot it in the default HG mode. Would I be better going down to a lower grade mode?) The computer will play it nicely in some viewer program, but Vegas doesn't seem to like the .MTS file format. Nor does it seem to like .MP4 from a Flip HD. It will handle .MOV files. What does Vegas like? Do I need to convert these to something else before importing to Vegas? If so, what? What is Vegas' preferred format?
So many questions... Thanks to anyone who can help.
