What Happened To The Site?

Actually had to figure out both of those years ago:

(1) cropping & padding in Compressor when exporting
(2) behaviors in Motion to control exposure pulsing (essentially creating a custom flicker from scratch)

And although I've slowed down with production that's really so true about someone/client asking for something and you're thinking, "Oh, now I have to learn how to do this." ha

One thing I definitely appreciated about DVInfo that isn't the case here is the real name policy. It's relatively small concern as long as everyone behaves (i..e doesn't hide behind the anonymity), but it is sort of strange to me that I have interacted with some of the regulars here for years and don't know their actual names.

I'm not sure about what Facebook groups everybody is talking about, I've been joining several but most are worse off than forums in terms of activity. Maybe there's a big drop in people doing this work? It felt like everybody was in video and filmmaking in one way or another not too long ago but now it's just so quiet by comparison.

I've had the same thought. Maybe it's Youtube. I often go there first because I can see hands on a specific thing. Or maybe people are split into two groups. Content creators who mostly use easy to operate device like smart phones and industry corporate folk who either know it or learn on the job.

those were yesterdays questions. the forum helped deliver answers.

today we/I have new questions.

Ive just been dinking with OBS studio for a project and struggling

But it it seems that here there might not be an OBS studio expert here willing to chime in.

OBS, Zoom, Teams, Sidus link app..

Loads of things I need help with.

Your first problem is that you are using OBS. Try using a professional tool such as
Wirecast, Vmix or Captivate for something like that. I mean you CAN use OBS. And you
CAN use a cellphone to shoot video with as well......just saying.

I dont want answers to questions on this thread which is about the future and purpose of the site (I guess)

Im noting that while I do understand Slog there are many things that I dont understand. (OBS, zoom, sidus, many more tools)

As for shooting on a phone.. I have a client im encouraging to do that. Because getting me to location at the correct times will be hugely costly.
I will then direct the edit.. and maybe make for $/hour for less hours.

A modern chat worth having (but not here)

Face book Aperture is active, enven Mitch Gross popping up.

But help cracking Sidus.?. very little.

I first started playing around with it in 2014...I remember that well and that year because I had the Blackmagic URSA then (big one) and was exporting more horizontal ratios than the normal formats to make the videos look more "cinematic".

I couldn't do it in FCP so I went to Compressor.

You did say upright (which I'm assuming is vertical), but there is no way I considered any vertical format back then (but same difference, messing around with box shapes).

I will say that when this site came back up, first thing I did was download the 16 page thread on Key & Peele because this is the only place I went into detail on how we shot some of those sketches, and now however many years later I've forgotten those details. There is a possibility of a podcast series talking about the making of the show so I need all these deets!

you got an editor? i'd love to listen to that, ha

(guess I could also just listen to it like a normal person if/when it comes)

I totally get where you're coming from, Charles. And I've addressed my perspective on it a few times on here when it has come up, as well.

While I am behind the idea of accountability, I think being able to maintain a certain level of anonymity allows a freer exchange of information and opinion, sometimes. While I would never do something like openly trash a client by name on a public forum regardless of being anonymous or not, I just don't feel that's in good form, having some anonymity does let me feel like I can share at least some things that I may not, otherwise.

But, almost anyone that really knows me would recognize me by my screen name instantly. And you know my real name from some of our interactions outside of the public side of DVX. ; )

For the kids, TLDR; I agree with Charles' philosophy, but I feel there is real value and purpose in anonymity to further the open and free exchange of information, ideas and opinions.

Two dvxusers meet in person, combined age 90 years old:

m: "media dude is that you?"
md: "monstro!?"
weirded out onlookers

Most people are only semi anonymous, at which point there's not much benefit. The only reason is like you mentioned if you're sharing details you wouldn't normally, but not like anyone is defaming former clients. But to your point, it is cool hearing tips and tricks, but someone with a known identity can just be vague and not name names while getting the key takeaways over the line.

I don't really care, but I just don't think we're getting any extra juicy info from anonymous posters.

They've been breaking and/or on and off for like 20 years.

Do the normal troubleshooting and see if anything works; checking settings (toggling options), clearing cache, trying different browsers, exploring mobile, restarting computer, etc.

Thanks for all of the maintenance work.

Will it be a permanent update that non-members can view images? I've started several threads and posted images, which I definitely wouldn't have done if I'd known anyone could view without being a member.

Maybe they will still tweak some settings but IDK.

No like button right now, but you can see who liked all of your posts...

And while I was exploring the new layout I saw a section called 'new profile posts'. Might be a bug as it's only accessible when you're logged out and here you can see people's posts on other profiles who they thought they were privately messaging...this is probably not what you want.
