What happened to Google?

Pretty much cant find anything on google anymore; results are either way off, unrelated or commercial.

Infact I just googled "cant find anything on google anymore" and found out that I am not the only one complaining.

I can't even goto 'google.com', it keeps switching to Canada(.ca) Can't even enter USA code to widen a search result either.

Found this on google:
"...The customization of search results based on location is an important component of a consistent, high-quality search experience. Therefore, we haven't provided a way to turn off location customization, although we've made it easy for you to set your own location or to customize using a general location as broad as the country that matches your local domain."

???
Time to move on from google I guess, any good contenders?

Hijack, Virus?

I know I've mispelled(?) logging into google and more often that not I get directed to a fake google page that asks me to fill out some questions. Ofcourse that's a first clue.

I don't know. Sounds like a hijack cookie. Clean your cookies. Run a scan, (yeah, it sucks for 2 hours.) If not, reinstall. It's not google. They have too much at stake for that imo.

What do you think we're doing up here all of the time? Drinking beer and playing hockey? Global domination brother.

Well at least there isn't a '.NAU' extension, yet (!)

Anyway managed to goto google.com but the search results still suck in general...

probably a virus, thats the only time i get redirected from sites i click on through google or get incorrect search results

I don't think its a virus, actually since I switched to google.com and somehow deleted the saved location(it no longer shows the location info) results are much better and more on spot.

Cool. To quote your sig..."Science never solves a problem without creating ten more.". lol

Everyone always thinks it's a virus. One thing I've learnt with all my years in scanning and security: Never at first assume it's a virus. That's a sure way to do everything other than fix the problem, as well as ensure that paranoia hijacks your life...

It's a listed company that provides a free service. How do you think google makes its money? Controlling information. There's no money in giving you the information you ask for, only in giving you the information they want you to have. Its not conspiracy, just business. These days I usually have to go to page 3 or 4 before I start finding the sites I wanted in the first place. The first 2 are usually a mix of companies and ebay listings. Finding information sites or sites which aren't selling something takes a little digging. What happened to the internet? In some ways I liked it better before the world wide web was invented and turned it into a marketplace. Once upon a time the internet had no pictures other what you found on ftp or loading one horizontal line at a time ;) but that's just nostalgia...I don't think I could go back to all that typing (although you felt like a wizard having to type in a dozen cryptic lines of code just to link your modem). Still, better than having ads on the search page I suppose....

Now my rants blown out I do seem to remember once having a hijack virus that mimmicked google...spybot s&d cleaned it right up. But google has definitely degraded this past couple of years or so. It would be nice if gen y could give us a college student who could reinvent this wheel without being bought out. Bring back dogspile and electric monk!
