What gel should I use to cover my on camera light

A full CTB like Rosco 3202 would bring you up to 5500K ("normal" daylight), but it would also knock down more than half your light transmission.

If you need more light, you can go with a half blue, or even quarter. But with this compromise you drop the lights colour temperature accordingly.

CTB (color to blue) gel is what you want, it'll turn 3200k light into 5600k. HOWEVER: it eats up 75% of your light! A 20w light delivers 20 watts worth of 3200k light, but when you put CTB on it you'll end up with 5 watts worth of 5600k light. Which will render it much less useful than you may wish. CTB costs 2 stops of light, so if converting a light to 5600k, you usually want a stronger tungsten source to begin with. A 75w light with CTB would produce about 20 watts of blue light.

Barry, I always thought CTB meant "Color Temperature Blue".

I've heard it both ways.  It's like MOS -- there are like at least 10 definitions I've heard for what that means, but it all ends up meaning the same thing: MOS means you're recording without sound, and CTB means you're converting tungsten to 5600k...

yes, its funny how many names come up for one thing..
we´ve had productions were people invented all kinds of strange names for one thing.. nobody besides the actual crew would understand what we were talking about.
Actualy we call the CTB "correct to blue" :)

While none of the answers are incorrect, the manufacturers designate the acronym as "Color Temperature Blue"
