what gear does BBC use?

Ive been watching a lot of BBC shows lately (dont know if you guys get much of that in the states)... their location recordists are absolutely BRILLIANT!!!

Just wondered if anyone here has done BBC work, and what gear they use? Im asking about the gear because I know that the BBC has quite strict control on what is acceptable to them for sound and what isnt..

If anyone knows the shows, im thinking Top Gear Extra, Room Invaders, Wife Swap, Little Angels etc etc etc etc...

It just amazes me how consistently amazing their stuff is! Must... learn... how...

ok, we gettingf there. so im assuming:

sony dmxp01 digi mixer?
mhk416 for exterior?

some kind of hyper for interiors?
what lavs are they using, on what transmitter/receivers?

I thought that they bought Z1s to replace PD150s. Yesterday the UK Pany rep said that they had just bought a load of HVXs and had chosen P2 as their tapeless format.

I think the high quality is more due to the people making the programs. Television in the UK has only 5 "main" channels and so there is less dilution of talent and budget. Unfortunately we seem to be heading further and further towards the US s I'd prefer one good program than 10 crap ones, but maybe it's just me!

i dont doubt that its definately to do with the talented people recording the sound... but you can learn a lot about how they think just by knowing what gear those people put their faith in.

any ideas?

are they using lectro wireless kits? what about lavs? and im still very curious about what indoor mics they have in their kit bags...

Oops, sorry Tim,
I mistakenly thought this question was broader, and didn't realize you were talking sound only.
Hence, my Sony remark had more to do with cam equipment, although as you can see from John and mmm's posts, that may not even be true.
But, if one looks at their (quite excellent) training site:
http://www.bbctraining.com/television.asp
you'll notice that all the cams listed are Sony, for instance.
But for sound they do use the 416, and other "pro" gear from what I've seen.

no problem! thanks for the link, ill check it out.

I dont find it hard to believe they're using sony digi mixers, but i did find it strange that they might use sony wireless over lectrosonics or similar.

anyone else know?
