What Follow Focus Should I get?

I ordered on Monday via Ebay, and received FF & Mattebox tonight. Wow. Incredible quality, awesome products, I'm blown away. THey cut me a deal on buying both items, awesome customer service, I really can't say enough. Mattebox with quick release arm is solid as they come, flags & all.

Sorry to geek out but damn, what a deal for such great products.

Can any users of the TRUSMT tell me about the size and shape of the drive gear? I'd like to use a significantly smaller drive gear at 0.8 pitch, but TRUSMT doesn't offer them, and I can't tell which gears would fit. (If you don't understand why I'm asking, think about riding your bike uphill and shifting your front gear (pedal crank gear) into the smaller ring: you can pedal more turns and go less distance.)

I believe the TRUSMT 0.8 gear has 52 teeth. With a ratio of 1:1 and using stills zooms for video, I would like something close to 1/2 that.

With a little bit of research I discovered:
vocas has a 36 tooth drive gear option
cavision has a 28, 34 & 44
oconnor has a 35 & 43
&
Chrosziel has a 30 for series 201 & 204
& a 24 for series 206

But I can't begin to tell which might be compatible with the TRUSMT.

I'm gonna guess it's cavision, but that would only be a $20 + $400 mistake.

Would anyone who has a TRUSMT FF be willing to shoot a few pics of the drive gear and throw in a measurement or 2?

thanks-djangosan

35MASTER is affiliated with a domestic DSLR GEAR manufacturer. His M.O. is to adopt different names and specifically knock this company. He uses DSLRDADDY and SHOOTING5D too. Trolls on YOU TUBE as well.

Yeah ignore the trolls and haters. I for one would love to have that magical grease that makes lash seem to disappear even though it's really still there. David Blaine grease! I wonder if it works on a beer gut?

@ Whiskeyred, thanks for posting those. Sorry for more questions but I can't quite tell from those photos, how does the drive gear attach? And what size is the spindle/hole, ~2mm?. I know most of us don't have micrometers lying around to measure small parts. If you've got a set of drill bits, maybe you could tell us the largest one that fits inside the drive gear?

It looks a lot like the Cavision and Redrock drive gears, but they have a small set screw that tightens down on the spindle from the side:

And it's not like the vocas gears which seem to lock onto a half-round spindle:

To me it looks most like the Genus or Chrosziel 201 drive gears:

But not knowing spindle size and how they lock onto the spindle, you just can't tell.

I'm gonna pick up the Cavision gear to see if it will play nice with the Redrock we have at the studio. I'll measure both when I get my hands on them. If the Cavision gear doesn't work for me, whiskeyred, I'll pm you to get your address and send it on to you.

Have fun with the new toy!

I just purchased this on ebay thanks to this thread. i was going to go with the Redrock Micro, who I know make quality products but the couple hundred dollars in savings is really needed right now

What is the difference between the TrusMT NF2 and NF4 follow focus? Do i need to buy the Quick Release plate with extend plate in order to set it all up?

Many thanks for this thread. I have purchased a crappy FF and reading this thread, I wish I hadn't. I may be upgrading to this set in the future.

i just recieved the trusmt n4 model. the build quality is awsome. love the hardstop option and the stiffer feel. The quick release is also a plus.
