What External HD are you using?

Other World Computing has some also. I think they're cheaper than Wiebetch, but it's been a while since I was in the market for one.

Hi Marlene,

I have the G-Tech G-Sata RAID and so far like the performance and reliability. I think the G-Drives are about as small as I've seen but if you are looking for something different, maybe not as expensive I also use a very simple external USB2/FW400 external case that I purchased at PC Club for $99 that holds any flavor of 5.25" drives and I use Western Digital 7200RPM drives. [mostly with USB2]

The only downside to this is that it requires external power, my laptop cannot power it. I used to use Maxtor [they are cheap] but after a couple of drive failures I switched to Western Digital, of which I have about ten drives ranging from 160GB to 320GB - so far no problems. They are quiet and seem to run cool.

Can you really trust in a bus powered 7200rpm Hdd? That means in the field the power is drained through laptop right ? So wouldn't that result in more strain on the laptop itself? I am thinking about eSATA ac powered. Much faster than anything that has been listed here so far and via AC power you are sure it is not putting any "sticks into your wheels". Just have to wait for the 34 Express cards to start selling...

Well, it will drain your laptop battery faster, but that's the only strain.
