What should my project settings be when i am capturing video into my system ? Upper field or lower field ? What is the underlying principle one has to keep in mind when choosing a mode ?

Also when im importing a clip ,,, how do i identify wether it is upper field first or lower field first or if its progressive format ?

I didn't realize that DV was always lower field first. What format is upper field first? I guess you really do learn something everyday...

HDV, for one. There are lots of file formats and codecs out there, quicktimes and mjpg and mpeg and sorensen and dozens of others; it's always good to get the field order right. Vegas has presets for some of the more common formats.

If you received a clip through e-mail or on a DVD-ROM or something? Import it into your project media bin, right-click it and get the properties, it'll tell you what frame size, what codec, etc.

But frame size and codec have nothing to do with the field order ? Unless i memorize all the codecs and their respective field orders,,, is there an easier way where vegas can show what the field order is ? Or any other way to find out ?
