What exactly do "throw" and "cable run" mean?

I'll be covering a government press event (not my usual work), and at the bottom of the press release it states:

Throw: 60 feet

Cable run: 500 feet

Does either refer to hooking up my audio cable to their line out? What exactly do these terms mean?

Thanks!

You would be hitting their press pool for audio and possibly a video feed. Depending on who you are getting a feed from (sometimes split between national and international feeds), you would have to have your cable run to that point. Usually, your tie-in for audio is XLR.

It is common to have the press pool centrally situated under the riser or in the designated area where the press will congregate. It is my experience that the 500' run would be the distance from the venue to where satellite trucks can park, not your distance to tying into the press pool. At least I've always set up my press conferences to minimize third-party cable runs throughout my venue.

Throw is distance from press area to the stage / podium.
