if i am using premiere pro 2 as my nle, what else do i need in order to capture and edit HD footage from the hvx ??

do i need special hardware other than a standard firewire card ?

what about special third party software ??

thanks in advance !

Yep. You will need raylight or one of the other 3rd party programs to add support for the HVX's p2 formats. Premiere does not natively support the DVCPRO HD codec, nor the MXF wrapper.

ok. so software wise i need raylight... but what about hardware ?? can i record HD directly from the HVX to premeire pro 2 via 1394 firewire ?? or do i need something like the xena card ??
thanks!

I don't believe Premiere pro allows for live capture of anything. (not entirely sure, though).

DV Rack HD 2.0 is the best live capture software out there from what I have read. The advantage to that is that it will record the files as avi's that you should be able to edit anything you captured with dvrack, directly in premiere pro without 3rd party programs.

Our day will come. Since Adobe purchased Serious Magic, I'm willing to be that they will soon incorporate the SM Codec into Premiere and offer packages that include Serious Magic DV Rack into the production bundle.

I have Raylight, SM and use Cineform Prospect HD because it can upconvert the video to 10 bit AVI files instead of 8 bit.

Capture from the HVX to a HDD, use Raylight to encode or convert to AVI from MXF then you can easily import it into PPro 2.0. Make sure you create a folder on your HDD before importing from P2, Firestore, etc.

The Raylight MXF plugin for Premiere will be ready in about a week. I have it working right now, but without sound. I wouldn't hold your breath with Adobe, they have to move very slowly on these things.

The clowns at Adobe can't even figure out how to release a patch for the Serious Magic DVCProHD Decoder / Batch Converter. There are problems that have been known since the product's creation more than four months ago, and a patch cleared Q&A late last year. But do they release it? No....
