What editing system? FCP,Avid,Vegas?

I see that most of the post on editing systems are in here. Is this one of the best solutions for editing for the dvx100a? I recently went though a 48 hour film fest by avid. I used avid x pro on pc and it would batch capture. I think that avids flow for the lower market sucks and they don't support you, but its the industry standard(the big systems) Avid is merely trying not to lose the market on there product so they come up with the budget systems that don't always deliver. What do you suggest?

NO Im very serious. I want to know. I was trained on FCP. It never really had major problems and I could get work done, find things without something else messing up. I'm not looking for mac/pc war. Really I see that everyone post in this section, vegas must have something that I'm not aware of. I think I may have to have FCP Studio for just how clean the graphics look and how heavy the system.

As David said, Vegas has a smoother implementation for 24p and 24pa being used in the same timeline. FinalCutPro doesn't do this as easily. However, if you shoot one or the other and don't mix them (normal anticipated usage, right?) then Final Cut Pro is a more capable program, especially if you like Mac. Vegas is built on the platform of an audio program and therefore has excellent audio rendering capabilities, however, why would you being doing audio tweaks as a video editor?

You may not intend a Mac/PC war, but inevitably that is what ensues. If you wish to hear the thoughts of many in previous NLE wars, I would encourage you to search the forums for a while on the differences among platforms.

This topic has been beaten to death (from an Apple/FCP user).

It’s about a lot more than just having 24pN and 24pA on the same timeline for 24p. Vegas handles either file exactly the same and you don’t have to do anything special for capture; in fact, it captures them as 60i files and then removes the pulldown when you need it and leaves it place when you don’t. No hoops, no settings, just capture and edit, in any timeline with any clips. FCP can’t do that. In a question about use with the DVX, which just about everyone buys for its 24p, it's an exceptional advantage.

And beyond that, I thoroughly reject the idea that FCP is a more "capable" editor than Vegas. While every editing system has a few bells and whistles others don't, on the whole, you will not be able to show the advantage FCP has over Vegas, particularly in the areas of output and audio.

It has nothing to do with PC/Mac; it has to do with the software. I couldn't care less what Vegas runs on; if it ran only on a Mac, I'd have a Mac. It so happens it runs on Windows, so that's what I use.

I became a Vegas user specifically for it's handling of 24p.

(sides; Mac's are for pretentious asshole pricks)

Bwhahahaahahahahahahah! I AM THE DEVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David- "capable" as in terms of input format. DVCProWhat?

You can use DVCPro with Vegas. As of right now, it doesn't come preinstalled, but you can download the codec. I suspect by the end of the year it will be native.

But in any case, 1) I said that any NLE has a few minor advantages over the others (try exporting a WM9 file from FCP?) and 2) what's that got to do with integration with the DVX100, which is what the poster asked about?

I see also that The Barry Green posted things about vegas. But if you want a job editing you must know Avid...which I'm certif, but hate its flow.

Download the Vegas demo and see what you think. Remember, it approaches editing from a direction you might not be used to, so it might take a little bit to "get it." The interface certainly isn't standard, but once you get the lay of the place, you'll find everything you need easily enough. The Help function is also superb -- a whole manual unto itself.

I just wish Vegas had 2 monitors! I love working with 2 monitors! Other than that, simply put, it's freakin awesome.

I missed the source monitor at first, too, but now, I think it's a waste of screen space.

You never use both screens (source & preview) at the same time, so one is really enough.

Yeah the thing is that I really like seeing the last frame of the timeline while I put the in point on the next cut. I dunno, preference I guess. But that's pretty much the only problem I have with Vegas.
