What dv Decks are you using?

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any info you have. What decks are you guys using with your NLE? I am in the market and I'm looking at 2 afforadable options.

1. the Panasonic dv2500 (of course) because of its usual matchup with the dvx. My only fear is that I heard it was actually a JVC deck, and I have had such bad experiences with JVC in the past I am never going to willingly purchase from them... but coming through Panasonic i dunno ;)

2. the Sony dsr-11. Looks great, seems great. how is the compatibility with the DVX recorded tapes? With Premiere Pro 1.0 and 1.5?

Thanks,
Lucas

Re: What dv Decks are you using?

I would prefer the DSR-11 over the DV2500 anyday. I had numerous problems in the past with that dam deck. I don't know why that is, it just never want to work with me. I've used the DSR-11 before and it works fine. No probelms. Right now I'm using my sonytrv900 as my deck. I don't recomended doing what I'm doing. But I like breaking rules, plus the camera is old anyway. It's lived its life. Hope anyof that helps on your decision.

Re: What dv Decks are you using?

Im definately leaning to the dsr-11. Seems great.

Now I'm also considering the Matrox rtx.100. I have a Canopus Storm card from long ago sitting on a shelf cuzz the support for ppro is horrible, and with it I can trade to the Matrox for a reasonable price.

This way I can also cut my 24p footage with 60i footage (which I desperately need to do) cuzz Ppro can't handle that task.

Re: What dv Decks are you using?

I don't see nothing wrong with the matrox100. Matrox are actually pretty good and I've never experience any major problem. All I have is a 15 firewire card. I've edited and outputed many projects with it with no problem. Not bad for 15 bucks! :)

right now I just use a camera, but am looking into getting either a dsr 11 or 25

WARNING: The Matrox RTX100 does not support editing 24fps. It's a 29.97 only card. This limitation is total BS and I will not buy/update another one unless they add the support.

Oh, they are selling a high end HDV system that supports 24 but that will set you back a large amount of cash.

Re: What dv Decks are you using?

I know it doesn't support 24p... thats exacty what i need. I need to combine 24p-normal footage with 60i.

As it is now, Ppro 1.5 will not allow it (without horrible jitters), because you cannot interperet 24p footage as 60i.
