Well, what your saying and everyone is missing , is that natural light, is, in and of itself, a style. And a viable one. But how do you know if this style is right for you and your movie?
Three point lighting: Creates an accepted "realism" (tho a falsehood ), in order to create the illuison of depth and guide the viewers eye to the story element that is most important.
Natural", more "flat" lighting: More objective. The audience is allowed to look where it wants. A reveling in the magic of unvarnished reality.
How do you choose?
again.....
Study film theory.
THe desperate hunt for "film look", is, in actually, a hunt for THE THING THAT MAKES YOUR STUFF LOOK LIKE A MOVIE. LIKE A MOVIE=CINEMATIC. There's reasons people choose natural light.- Its part of an overarching stylistic and cinematic viewpoint. Go decide for yourself WHAT IS CINEMATIC:
Expressionism: Manipulating the material through camera and editing is cinematic

Neorealism: Presenting the material in an objective way and not varnishing it or making judgment is cinematic

Montage: Cutting shots together is cinematic
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VP5jEAP3K4
Bazin/French New Wave: preserving 3-D space and letting the story be open to interpretation is cinematic

Formulate your own ideas, pick a side or mix them up how you want. Study film theory. Its the big "film look secret" everyones hunting for. Most people are looking under the wrong rock. The camera or software cant choose shots and framing and editing and story for you.
Whew Ill shut up now...
