What does everyone think of what they've seen so far?

I'm just curious what people are thinking about the footage they've been seeing so far from the HVX.

I've been liking what I've been seeing for the most part.

I have noticed some purple flanging and fuzziness in some of Kaku's footage. It looks like what have been called lens abberations on the JVC. You see it alot on white edges.

Just something I noticed. We've got a standing order with deposit on the camera, so we're pretty much commited.

Just wondering what some of the thoughts are around here.

as a PC user I can´t judge it yet. IMO people first have to learn how to compress these files for internet viewing.

I still haven't seen anything as compelling as the footage shown by Jarred and Barry.

Agreed. Seeing that makes me wish I had an extra 6 grand lying around.

The footage by Jarred and Barry looked great.

I'm underwhelmed with the other footage by kaku. Looked very videoish to me. DVX footage out of the box looked more filmic (color wise) to me, but it could be kaku didn't have the cinegamma on. I'm holding out for more users to post their tests.

No,
Kaku was using cinegamma for some footage.
We're fortuanate that Kaku providied something for us.
I have not seen all the footage since I use a PC, so it's hard to
comment.

It's all about composition.

The bike shots were taken from another person (I believe Kaku) riding a bike.
This type of shot will not look filmic, but videoish.

The stuff Barry and Jarred uploaded did. This tells us that the camera can do it under correct settings and composition.

I'm not knocking Kaku for anything. We are fortunate when anyone provides anything for us. And I wasn't referring to the composition because it's not all about composition.

My eye was going to the footage quality with regard to color. Lighting plays into this more than anything else of course, but still, the color from raw camera footage is a camera issue. You're saying the Kaku footage was using the cinegamma? I wouldn't have known that. DVX footage with the cinegamma has a look about it that this footage didn't have.

The thing that separated the DVX from the XL2 (for me) was the color tones. The imagery felt filmic regardless of composition. The XL2 just looked like 24p consumer grade video to me.

The stuff posted by kaku looked about as good as the cannon HDV camera and I wasn't impressed by that either. Like I said, need to see more from other users.

With the addition of the 35mm lens, the HVX can clean up the house. The Good as a Mugg folk and I have been pushing the hell out of the DVX and we are to the point where the thing we are looking for now IS the frame-rate, and resolution. I loved the examples of the 60p were fantastic. The HVX is the answer to many years of prayer.
Now all I need to do is get my hands on the damn thing and apply what we have learned about the DVX to the HVX

I still haven't seen any HVX footage that looks as filmic as the best stuff from the HD100. Then again, the worst HD100 footage looks worse than any HVX stuff I have seen. There seems to be CA in some of the HVX footage, but less so than the HD100.

CA is chromatic abberation? I feel like I'm seeing that in a significant number of the clips. It looks like little purple lines around the edges of the whites.

I know Kaku Ito is just shooting from the hip and it's cool that he supplied the footage. I feel like I'm mostly impressed with the resolution of the frames. Not having done any HD, It's all so big and beautiful.

I'm impressed with the camera. I did go to DV Expo and see the camera. Samy's Camera had the camera connected to a small CRT Monitor; I couldn't tell sharpness from this, but when I pointed the camera in a badly lit area on the trade show floor, the image looked good. The demo on the 42" monitor in the Panasonic Booth also looked very good. The still images captured from footage taken at the show and posted on the WEB are VERY sharp.

I think the frame capture stills are still a bit grainy (if you compare it with a digital camera, you will see the difference)

I finally bought my DVX two weeks ago. I still havent seen the compelling
reason, other than the tasty frame-rates, to go with the format.

Its currently stradling two worlds... standard def, 24p and full on 1080p with
hardcore optics. I currently doesnt dovetail into a distribution format cleanly.
Downrezzing to SD is an option, but from what I've seen.. you're still going to
see a touch of the video fringing and moire patterning. At full filmout, you're
still going to be a bit soft. Its a stopgap camera, and bleeding edge... use it
if you need it and can afford the additional post costs, but yet dont have
enough money to rent a full on, 1080p rig.

For the next 12 months, it doesnt fit into my personal program... though for
others it surely does. This is a classic 'your milage may vary' situation.
