What does DAVINCI 2K have that motion +Colorista + Conduit doesn't!

You're better off using a non-realtime system, putting together a reel and starting
looking for work as an assistant, especially cause you're out here in Cali. Heck,
take ANY job at a DI house, places with Inferno suites, or anywhere that does
realtime CC. I was at a place last night to drop off some materials and the PA
was running a few shots on 300K worth of hardware.

Buying a bunch of hardware, in an effort to charge a client $75/hour, when you
can easily make the equivalent on someone else's dime? Hehe, I'll go the 'other
people's money' route any day. If you're good, you're good. Get that reel together
then start getting some assisting jobs and learn the craft.. then build that home
suite to do indie stuff on the side.

BTW, Colorists are total freaks of nature :) I deal with a lot of compositors that
think they could 'go colorist', but it just doesn't work that way... hehe.

I've had the great priviledge of working with some of the most well-know and highest-paid colorists in LA, and I can attest to two facts:

1) There is nothing, litterally nothing that you can do in a Da Vinci that you can't do in After Effects. You'll be doing is more slowly in After Effects is all.

2) The sessions I've had with these top colorists have been amazing experiences, worth every penny (of someone else's money!).

1 + 2 = what you're paying for is the colorist's eye. Yes, it's "just color." And notes are just notes, but sit me down at a Steinway and you'll find out just how much pain notes can cause!

Still, this awesome thing that colorists do should be a part of anyone's digital filmmaking process, regardless of the budget. That's why I designed Colorista, why I created Rebel CC and gave it away for those who couldn't afford Colorista, and why I devoted an entire chapter to color in The Guide.

Thanks Greggl and Prolost that is great info. I really appreciate the info. Greggl I think I will take this approach of looking for a job as a colorist at a post house. And I will create a reel using what I have available. I really feel like dvxuser has helped me figure this out. Thanks All.
