what does a dvx100b rent for per day?

Rates depend a lot on your region in the country. Here, most rental houses are ~$150/day for a DVX, which would usually include a bare-bones tripod and extra battery. People might personally rent their gear for cheaper, as they have less overhead.

I would say check your local rental houses in your area and see what you think is fair. Many places will do a day-rate of ~5% of the total cost of the equipment, depending on its technology age, demand, and again region/competition.

I live in orange county and the multiple times i've had to rent a camera due maintenance i've gotten them for $75 a day and that was through a company i'm close with.

Personally i'll rent mine for $40 to anyone i feel comfortable.

At $40/day that is crazy. Why bother even charge. ;-)
I don't rent out my gear unless I am shooting it. With of course a few exceptions for friends/experienced shooters i trust. In the NY area I charge $150-$200/day for my 100a and I will throw in a few extras (such as extra batteries and usually an AT897 shotgun). Depending upon the client and the budget I believe that they should pay for any other equipment they need - ie tripod, wireless, lights, etc. I will negotiate deals, but I believe if you give away your gear, in the end you'll regret it. As for a tripod, I used to only charge if I rented a 503 or better. And even then it's just what I pay to rent it. If you're bringing your best buy $40 tripod, noboday should pay for that. Now that I've purchased a 503 I am more willing to consider it part of the camera package. It always depends on the client and their budget.
