What do you want to know about SXSW?

SXSW has quickly become one of the more prestigious indie film festivals and I'll be heading there to scope it out. I will be interviewing some filmmakers (both high profile and low profile) on the subject of negotiating a festival like SXSW, how they prepared, what surprises they've run into, etc.

But before I leave next Thursday, I wanted to ask the filmmakers here, having never been to SXSW or a festival like it, what would you like to learn about it before bringing a film there? If you had a film there, what questions would you have for the other filmmakers that have already done it?

I'd be curious to hear if anyone is doing anything unique to SXSW in terms of marketing while they are there. It seems to be a very different festival in that it covers a broader range of arts and seems to be a little more inviting to those outside of the independent film crowd. What is the most effective way to market your film there?

And I know that SXSW is a big festival in terms of attendance and publicity, but is it "big" in terms of distributors?

Possibly stupid questions but I'd still be curious to know the answers as I know very little in regards to the festival circuit at all.

Thanks Zak - very cool that you get to go, and even cooler that your sharing your experience in such helpful ways.

My friends sister works as an intern for sxsw. Anyways my friend get's a free platinum pass. Thats pretty much a $1000 value. I am so jealous. Besides that thanks for doing this zak, I don't have any specific questions but I'm interested in how it goes!
