what do you think of this video

1. Still digesting - The video is only :58 Would you mind using timecode so I can understand a little better, thanks.

Yeah, that wasn't very clear and must have been puzzling to you because I was confusing the part where he talks under the freeze frame at :17 with the freeze frame at the beginning.

At any rate, my suggestion is to use the photo at :04 and rescale the freeze frame at :07 to the same size as the photo at :04 - using a dissolve to transition between them. Then immediately start scaling the :07 shot up to full screen and full motion as you fade the effect away. So by the time it's scaled to 100% it looks the same as it now does at :08. As it stands, the cuts between the old photo, the artsy freeze frame, and the normal video of Quinn are jarring. This is just a suggestion as to how you might smooth things out a bit there.

And I'd just get rid of the freeze frame at :17.

1. Lose the opening shot of the guy in the car and the weird transition that follows it. The artist/designer starts by introducing himself. Either open with that or use some BRoll of him with a client, etc..., then cut back to him.

2. It need music. Partly to hide the poor audio, but also to give the piece some energy and emotion.

3. I'd lose all the freezeframes. You have some good footage, no reason to use effects (cuts are working fine - add music and it will make them even better).

4. I'm not sure what message I'm getting. Am I supposed to go to the store? Is it just raising awareness about the designer? Am I being invited to join in this lifestyle, or am I being invited to observe someone elses lifestyle (high fashion, fast cars, etc...)

5. Music. It bears repeating. Something that demonstrates the feeling of this store - is it hip, European, techno, classical? Find something that adds to the story of the video.

6. Graphics. Not many, but at least a lower third or opening graphic so I know who this guy is. I'm having trouble understanding what he says at the open (basically, his name).

Otherwise, it looks like you have a lot to work with. It just needs some more finessing.

Well, that opening doesn't work too well. Agree with Michael on all points.

The b-roll you substituted for the foot shots works so much better. It's flowing pretty nicely now. Think you're getting in trouble when you feel the need to add some artistic effects. The place itself is artsy enough - let your footage communicate that without the effects.

1. The designer wanted that photo incorporated into the piece somehow, So maybe I can lose the transition at the end?

2. I finally have the music!

3. I think the freezeframe @ 00:07 should be removed but the one at 00:32 adds to the video, no?

4. RE: I'm not sure what message I'm getting... Is it just raising awareness about the designer? YES!

5. See #2

6. Dam, my graphics are like TIGER's game right about now...

Another question. My sequence has around 12 clips or so. In Soundbooth you can only master one clip at a time. If I master each clip with the same db reduction and % reduction (using noise print) all of my clips will have different volumes. Is there a work around where I can master all the clips with the same reduction amount?

1. I'd lose the transition and use the photo later. If you're going to use it at the beginning, either use it with the music underneath or have the designer's audio start under the picture. Either way, lose the transition. It just doesn't work.

2. Hooray music! I look forward to seeing it with music.

3. You only use two freezeframes in the whole piece, so it didn't feel like a style that you were really commiting to. If you lose the freezeframe at the beginning, it will feel even less like you're commiting to it. So I'd either find more places to use freeze frames or remove them completely. If it was my piece, I'd remove them completely. Your footage stands up on its own and doesn't require the effects.

4. The message. Do you have interviews with people visiting the store? Is there more interview with the designer? Right now I just don't get a strong message from the piece. I like the images, but the story isn't connecting with me. That may change when you add the music and clean up the audio, though, so start with that then reevaluate the story to see if it needs it.

5. Hooray music!

6. It definitely needs some graphics, even if it's just the designer's name and an address at the end. If I want to go to the store, I don't currently know where to find it, or where to find more info about the designer. Is there a website you can drive people to for more info? Ultimately this piece should call the viewer to action, right? That means you need to give them the info to learn more about the designer (website?), or visit the store (address and hours). Don't overdo it (unless you create a graphic style to use with your freezeframes, etc...). If you have more pictures from print ads, incorporate those with the live footage. That way we can see the store, see the designers, see the people shopping, and see high quality stills of the clothes on the models. Right now, I can't imagine myself in the clothes because I haven't seen them on someone else.

I hope I'm not coming across as harsh in my criticisms, but I like what I see and just want to see it kicked up a few notches.

NOT AT ALL! I'm new at this and need all the help I can get. The new version is almost 2 minutes long.

Waiting for VIMEO to finish.

It's better but the thing that made me close the page was the swirly sound from the audio. you've set the agression too high when using the audio cleanup thing. I can't remember the name of it of my head.

you need to bring it down a bit end use a parametric eq to remove the hiss thats left over and then using a graphic eq make it sound more "warm".

This is a huge improvement. But you really need to do something about that audio as has already been pointed out. Hopefully you can get it corrected before Duncan views it. I'd even consider taking the clip down until you do. Seriously, it sounds nasty.

For audio cleanup I used 'clean up audio' taken from a noise print. (soundbooth)

Isn't too late to fix the audio since I already cleaned it up? To be more specific remove some of the aggression?

I already sent him the link. I added a note on Vimeo that says 'audio will be fixed'

When using the audio cleanup you are presented with a dialogue box with a set a parameters and a preview button. I believe there is a slider titled "agression". i'm not sure.

Anyway, thats great for littles things, the hiss was a BIG thing. no offence.

So like i keep saying, try a parametric eq and just turn down the frequencies that seam to make teh hiss, play around abit. aftwards, using a graphic eq, try and sweeten the sound and he may sound a little muffled, or not quite right.

Next chance i get to get on the edit machine, i will put up some screen shots.

maybe im missing something but in SOUNDBOOTH the paraeq has only 10 presets. how can i get to the individual freqs?
