What do you think about these short films?

I watched the first one. I guess the concept is good, but it's too boring to my taste. I think the story is not that interesting - there are moments that can be meaningful personally to the author, but as far as I am concerned, they did not look convincing and meaningful to me. After watching Something Like This, I decided not to watch the second.
 
If you are not involved in any way - why do you care what we think about it- there are a million shorts out there, why did you pick these two?

geez what a sh$t ending. sorry i wasted my time!

i thought the photography was ok but also thought the use of lots of shallow DOF shots made it look ametuer me. i thought we were over that much shallow stuff. its like low budget out of the dslr mindset. still i thought the shots were pretty well thought out and decently done.

on one hand i liked that it wasn't overly stylized as to its finished CC (or unfinished lol) but at the same time it felt bland and non cinematic visually. there was no commitment to some sort of a "look". as well as it was shot i think it could have had more impact visually. lots of blown highlights as well which definitely made it feel more ametuer.

the acting was adequate.

it was long to me especially in that the ending led nowhere interesting. i would never sit to watch this on YT had it not been for this thread. like another poster said he didn't bother with the 2nd video as i had seen enough after this one. in fact i had seen too much i think.


HERE IS THE CRUX OF IT...
i feel like this overly long drawn out story just led be to the boring ass ending and a really boring stupid ass song at the end and then…pffft…the story is over? i noticed the "buy" this song below the video about 2/3rds of the way thru and started wondering if this is just a ploy to get you to buy a song (even though i had only heard instrumenting music up to that point but then in comes a song with vocals….and yes, all of a sudden there it was! the real reason why this video exists…to sell the song! you have got to be fuc$ing kidding me! lol! just a common and common can be cheesy pop song. not bad but nothing worth listening to in the least.

i feel duped! haha! got me once but wouldn't bother again.

ask yourself:

Is it interesting?
Is it realistic?

Try to GRAB the audience.

Some possible ways to do this:

fights, arguments (conflict)
bad things happening (crisis)
Interesting dialogue
Unusual characters
Interesting shots, as long as they serve the mood of the story

Keep asking yourself-- whats interesting about this? Whats going to make the audience not click away? then the hard part is making those situations realistic- realistic dialogue (god I suck at that), believable characters, good acting (harder than we all wish), etc.

FIlmmaking is a DEMANDING craft! Keep fighting to improve and dont give up the search for excellence!

Im going to post my new short here soon. Can't guarantee it'll be brillliant or anything (I still consider myself a STUDENT filmmaker), but it sure as hell is not cliche/boring.

Try to be INTERESTING, then try to make the interesting things REALISTIC/BELIEVABLE.

theres lots of ways to do this, study movies, read your screenwrtiing textbooks and test out the principles, the answers are there

Try to make your next one VERY INTERESTING!

And no, it doenst take money to do that. It looks like you want to make dialogue based romantic dramas. Try to make the dialogue and the characters and the situations super- interesting !!!! Better writing is FREE and within your reach!!! Takes a few years to learn (=Im in my fifth and finally starting to get somewhere), but the skills will be with you your whole life right?

Maybe the movie opens with a girl asking a guy to have a threesome. Maybe it opens with a guy and a girl kissing and her cop-husband is coming home. Maybe these ideas are awful for what you want to do (or just awful). But start to think---


What can I do that would be interesting?
