What do you guys use for sound editing?

Hey. This may be more of a Mac question than essentially a Final Cut question, but what software are you guys using fo sound editing?

i'm sick of hiring(for free) sound editors. I've yet to meet any with what I'd describe as strong work ethic and creativity. So I plan to start doing it myself.

I've been sort of learning Nuendo, but can you get that for Mac?

What's works well?

I use primarilly Pro Tools, but also Peak if it's for something simple (and only 2 tracks). Logic is also a strong contendor and very sweet.

Emagic Logic Audio works great in Mac environment. It has great plug-ins. Pro tools is also good choice for the sound design.

Just to add to the question: Is Logic express a decent solution for sound editing mixing or do we have to go with the full version?

Nuendo is available for the Mac. I've been using it for a couple of years and really like it. It's a program of great depth (and consequently a serious learning curve and major $$), but the GUI is excellent and the manual is clear . The quality of sound coming out of it seems great to me (and a lot of other people). I've had no problem importing OMFs from FCP.

I've considered Logic 6.x because in the long run, Apple will probably integrate it with FCP in some significant ways (and make it work especially well with FCP) . I asked on the Logic user group list how it handled OMF import, which I consider to be key for doing audio for video. Most replies said OMF import doesn't work too well - if the project has a lot of cuts, it doesn't work - and the OMF has to imported into OS 9 first (boot-up, not Classic mode). My guess is the next version of Logic will be a quantum leap for audio-for-video, because Apple will want it to be work well with FCP.

Good luck!
