What do YOU do to support yourself?

I am a divorced father of three and I share custody of my children. I have my own business, I am a blacksmith(40-60 hours per week) and I just shot my first short film which has been accepted into three film fests. There is always time to live your life.

Corporate video is a thankless, bottomless cesspool dedicated to the destruction of the human spirit...but it pays well! At least I can kill myself in new clothes...

Has anyone ever made an actual 'Cool' Corporate Video? Something that is entertaining and almost filmlike? (as oppossed to the kind where you want to kill yourself when watching I mean)

Barry G made that one that recreated the bridge of the original Starship Enterprise. I recall a grab from it....seems like it was in the Jarred and Barry Week In The Life Of Diary thread, no? That was probably pretty entertaining....for corporate schtuff.

Corporate video is the bastard child of the video world.

We all know it's out there, but it's not mentioned in polite company.

Now, insurance fraud video.....theres the cutting edge.

I tried once. Pitched the idea to Frito Lay but the corp guys says it might be too much! So I stuck with simple pans, CU, and that cheesy thumbs up at the end of the video! Man, who cares I got paid! Though, I will never do another video for Frito Lay. Everytime I go into their factory, I end up not wanting to eat chips for like 6 months. :(

Corporate videos suck!

Depends on the corporation, of course. I did one for the Mustang Ranch back before it went out of business, and...

Oh, ok. No, I didn't.

I'm a torpedo polisher... well I used to be anyway... now I cut and sell fish... and I cut and sell grass.

Oops, I mean I just cut the grass.

I make such corporate videos and I agree they are pretty much dog crap...but this "pays well" business. I don't know of this. Oh I have stories of how much I am being screwed over, but at least I have a job.....right?

Well, I'm a full time student on my 4th year in state university... studying law :lipsrseal

"Full time" is quite transparent term :cheesy: so I also work in a production house, run a by a friend of a family, creating motion graphics for narrowcasting (Scala). Nothing fancy, exciting and thankfuly time consuming, but sorta good money. Don't really do it to support myself, though, just to do something...

John Cleese of Monty Python has made corporate videos. I bet his are entertaining (everything that guy does is pretty good!).

I was the quality control supervisor at the Mustang Ranch. Our motto was: The customer always comes first.

I unfortunately do a lot of corporate work too. Of course if I take the job TDing Basketball games then I guess I would really have time for as much corporate work. Hmmm...

Yeah right, they would just make me work more. All I really want to do is play outside! Like a little kid. ;-)
