What do production accountants do?

CPA here and I've always wondered this. At a typical company you have an accounting department where people specialize in one accounting function. In other words, one person handles all the accounts receivable, one person handles all the accounts payable. One person handles all the fixed asset accounting. You would never have someone handle all functions for one particular client as specialization is the industry standard. I've always wondered how the film industry works since I see one person getting credit for being the production accountant. What does that person actually do? Don't studios have full time accounting departments that handle many projects at once?
