what do I need?

Hello

I'm moving down to South America and I want to have a HD ready gear now because later will be more difficult. I plan to start with weddings and events and hopefully some music videos and docs.

You can see what I own already below and my plan is to get a:

_ HMC150
_ A sec cheaper HD cam.
_ MBP (waiting until the summer for faster and hopefully blueray) an
_a HD monitor ( the dell 2408 or a new ACD)

I never worked with HD before so.....what I'm still confuse about is...

do I need to update my video card?
do I need to get a capture card? maybe a MXO2? why? what for? which one?
what else do I need to be able to work with this material?
Do I need RAID or SATA can handle this?

any information will be deeply appreciate.

Thanks to all.

Videocard on the MBP should suffice. Matrox makes a great product that will turn the DVI output and an ACD into a 'production HD monitor', interlacing and all.

You will need fast storage for your capture scratch. SATA RAID is a good idea, or you can get away with a FW800 external drive.

What about audio in/out? IN: shotgun / lav. OUT: Headphones will work in a crunch, but you might want to think of nearfields.

Thanks a lot J.

I thought my new MBP will be good for this but what about my Dual core 2GHz G5..with (NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE with 128MB of GDDR SDRAM, one single-link DVI port, and one dual-link DVI port)....will this be ok?

I can monitor HD straight from my DVI output, right? the matrox will only make the colors more accurate, right? Does Matrox work with PPC G5?

I didn't understand what you meant by IN: shotgun/ Lav OUT.

Thanks for your help. My head hurts trying to understand all of this.

Peace
