What do I need? What can I get?

I've finally got my DVX100 and creating some awesome sequences with Final Cut Express. -Lots of it.

I want to be able to burn on DVD over two hours of footage. -Just like those movie DVDs I get from the rental store. iDVD is too short: 1hr-great quality; thereafter, good luck.
1. Will I need to get DVD Studio Pro to achive this? -But will it be high quality?
2. What about my burner and DVD recordable media? Is there a special type for that? Will I need to upgrade?

This is what I have: Quick Silver Dual 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4; Mac OS X (10.3.x); 1.25GB SDRAM

Re: What do I need? What can I get?

First, I'm thinking all those hollywood DVDs are cut on 9s, not 4.7s. Hence your two hours. Ever notice that layer jump about an hour into the movie?

The key to making it look good though is the compressor. Compression is an art in itself. Speeding up bit rate for these frames, slowing it down for those. Just like color correcting, this is a full time job for folks.

That said, FCPHD (v4) for that matter has a program called Compressor that is the best thing Apple has put out for compression. Other people like Bitvice and many still like Cleaner.

Dual layer disk burners are starting to hit the street at affordable prices... though the discs are still around $10 a pop.

Ok -- read up on compression.
Save up for a dual layer burner.

Good luck,

Thanks Capt.M.!

Any recomendation on a dual layer burner? (That will work on my Mac and software: iDVD, FCExpress, and soon FCPHD/Motion/DVD Studio)

Again... thanks for the tip.
