What do I do?

So last night I went out to see a movie with some friends, and as I was about to pay for my popcorn I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. The caller ID was blocked but I answered and it was a guy who was an assistant to a local producer and was calling about an internship that I've been trying to get for the past two and a half years. Basically, to make a long story short, this producer lives in my area and is pretty well-known and has arguably had the most influence on me out of all the filmmakers who I admire most. I have been calling and emailing him directly since mid 2004 without a single response of any kind, and when I got this call my heart really started racing. Understand that this is pretty much a dream come true for me. The guy made small talk, asked how school was going, said that he was looking for an intern, said something about a resume and demo reel, and suddenly the line went dead. No caller ID, so I couldn't call him back. I sat through the movie with my phone in my hand, but alas, he never called back.

As soon as I got home, I sent an email directly to the producer and explained what had occurred, and attached my resume and a link to my reel, and then forwarded the message to one of his assistants whose contact info I did have. I then FedExed a hard copy of both the resume and reel to his office, and then went home.

I expected this guy would call me back today, but he hasn't. So I'm stressing like crazy. Now I'm not sure what to do. I think that if I don't hear from anyone by Monday I'm going to call the assistant whose contact info I have. Maybe I'm overreacting but I desperately want this and have invested too much and been through too many disappointments to let it slide by.

If anyone has any advice for me, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, thanks for letting me vent.

Call back monday or tuesday to confirm they received your reel. After that you wait. If he's serious about using you he'll call back. Just remember, he's big shot producer and this is an "intern" position. He's got a lot on his plate and probably won't get back to you immediately. Just don't freak out when you call, stay cool and professional.

Wow. That's crazy. I wish you luck though. And definitely follow Isaac's advice. Be cool and professional. Let us know what happens.

If there's one thing I've learned so far, it's this: If it's important they'll either call back or leave a message. I doubt he'll forget about you. Unless he was going down a list of course, but let's not think about that :)

To be the devil's advocate... but since the line went dead right when he was getting to your resume etc... since he hasn't called back...since the call was out of the blue...since there was no caller id... you might have been punk'd by someone that knows all this about you. I would still follow Isaac's advice, put be careful as well.

This is exactly what I was thinking. The possibility/probability of it being a joke, but following Isaacs advice just in case. Not much else you could/should do.

I'm pretty sure there's nobody who both knows all this stuff about me and also would have the audacity to play such a trick on me. Anyone who knows what I've been through with this guy would know that playing a trick like this is seriously, seriously crossing the line.

Okay, well I just had a rather long conversation with the producer's assistant (who was a very very nice person) and she confirmed my worst fear. It was a fake call.

There's only a handful of people who it could have been, and I can't even begin to imagine why any of them would do this. I don't get mad often, but I am unspeakably infuriated right now. I followed up very aggressively and as a result made a complete fool of myself and might have destroyed any chance I ever had of working for this guy.

I guess the moral of the story is that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Now excuse me while I go drown my sorrows.

Dude, you definately got patience to wait for a call since 2004.

So now figure it out.

Who did this ghastly deed to you? And why?

Once the riddle is solved, you must wait. Wait until you no longer yearn for the sweet revenge. Wait until the entire thing is forgotten.

Once this day comes, then you begin the hard work or wreeking the vengance you so dearly deserve.

The punishment you choose is up to you. But might I suggest that you deliver a smack ten times as brutal as the one you recieved.

Let these cock-smokers know you ain't to be phucked with.

Sorry man. Bright side is that maybe they will really like your reel this time and find it funny what happened and give you a shot.

As for the "friend".... cut off. I dont go for revenge. I just cut them off. The trick is to make that mean something somday. Make them really regret it later.

Drown sorrows? I say it's time to saddle up and start going through a list of mother-****ers you know with a lead pipe and a leather-man, til someone starts talking.

But from the beginning, not knowing, it sounds like you handled it right. The worst is that the producer would say "Oh that kid again." no harm done on that front.

But really, what kind of gay-assed friends do you have who think THIS is a practical joke??? one time, my friend placed an ad in the paper after X-mas, asiking for recycled X-mas trees and giving her Ex-boyfriend's address. Now THAT was a good joke...
