What comes after the frickin' remake

In the end it is just laziness on the part of the studios. What's the fastest, easiest way to cash in. "I know, let's remake "Casablanca"! We'll cast Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, they were "good" in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. It's a natural. "

This quote says it all. I feel that if you can't come up with the new idea, then you don't deserve your job. I have never believed it has all been done. That kind of thinking is for pussies. It all goes back to the quality issue.

To take it a step further, the remake is the prime example of how we can't even see our own art anymore for the cloud of BS that blocks it.

I wish there was a punishement for wasting money and keeping people stupid.

I guess remakes will pass. There are some of them that are cool, but they all make me think of how sluggish and unoriginal the industry is becoming. Has the remake become a standard? I wish it were only a fad. I remember the 80's cornball sci-fi kick. I remember liking it. Not so with the remakes.

What is next?

When will it get here?

What is next? Remakes of remakes maybe.................... :undecided

Eventually, the remakes will die down, but until then, the industry will keep making this **** until people stop paying for it. I bet Citizen Kane will be remade... starring Jack Black.

I don't have a problem with remakes as long as they're better than the original. I mean, war of the worlds and king kong's originals were considered "classics", but I feel the remakes were much improved over the originals. But yes, this seems like it's a walk of shame for hollywood. People are pushing for originality, yet hollywood keeps asking the public to see these remakes. They'll learn though.

Oh man, I am getting sick of all the remakes too. Some are better, but mostly they destroy the original films.

STOP THE PRESSES!
I don't think hollywood is out of ideas, they must have a 1,000 scripts a day come in from all around the world. It's not that they don't want to make those movies, but hollywood is so afraid of itself, that think if they make one of those films it will bomb. Reason being : They budget to high, and need to cut budgets in half. I.E. A romance film costs 40 million dollars! For what!? Sounds like they need to find new actors, or something, because I'm sick and tired of these cookie cutter movies.
But, the point is... they arn't making orginal ideas into films because they're afraid. because it's not already sold.

Good example, no one thought Star Wars would work. No one thought titanic would make money either, or terminator. Alot of "modern" classics, are made away from the studio now. The studio system is obsolete.

if you make a good film. It will be seen.

I blame the media.

If nobody thought Titanic would make money how did it get an estimated $200,000,000 budget? Sorry to nitpick I just don't think titanic is a good example to use. Unlike Terminator with its >$7,000,000 budget, Titanic wasn't necessarily an indie film. I'm sure no one expected it to be the collossal blockbuster it was but they definately expected to turn a coin with an investment like that.

Otherwise i would agree with your stance.

How about "Passion of the Christ"? It certainly was done independantly with Hollywood not believing in it. It certainly had some things going against it with the use of a dead language.

Putting aside the subject matter and anyone's personal beliefs this one certainly bucked the system.

I was using it as an example in kind of the sense that no one would thought it would make that much. I wasn't aware the budget was 200 million, not estimated. I thought that was because cameron went over budget.
