what case do you use?

I was wondering what case you use for your camera (and which camera do you have)?

It seems like after investing 5k+ on a camera a hard case is the only way to go.

Pelican cases are the best! I have the 1610 which would fit the 170 nicely I think.

The foam is what they call "pick and pluck" which means that it is basically perforated into little 1/2 inch square cubes.

You pick the cubes you want to take out and tear them off of the main piece. Just do a google image search for pick and pluck foam and you'll see what I mean.

I only use storm cases, I think there are better built than Pelican. I use a place in L.A that specialise in custom cut foam for cameras and film equipment etc.... You tell them what you want and they do it exactly to spec.

Storm 2600F.
DVX, 10 tapes, shotgun, windcover, hotshoe mount, charger & cables, remote, 5 batteries, hoodman.
like the hinges and handles better than pelican. case is a bit more pliable.
came with the pre-cut cubed foam--easy to customize.

Used to have 2 surplus Army boxes - similar to the Pelicans but more heav-duty and waterproof to 100 Meters (I bet you can throw them in a lake out of a plane, pull them out and run a tank over them).

As equipment grows and I usualy don´t sink it to the bottom of the sea I have flight cases now with much pick `n plug.

One question, the foam in the storm cases is like the pick an pluck of the pelican cases?
I think I'm leaning towards the im2500, which are your thoughts?

BTW, Thanks for the link bosindy. I'll look there.

Hi Somewhere:

Who in LA does custom foam cutting? I did my Storm case for my Letus/HVX with an electric knife and it is not bad but I still look at the cuts that Zacuto has on their foam inserts with envy. Does your place to really smooth, professional foam cutting?
