What are your rig building suggestions?

Hey All,
Up until now, I've been looking into just ordering a Gini rig, at around $460 (shipping included), it's a pretty good deal, and he gets good reviews, but I love the concept of maybe saving a few bucks by building my own.

I've sat down and put together a list of what my rig will hold normally...

-GH1/2
-Small HD DP6
-Zoom H4N
-FF
-Matte Box
-Senn. g3 receiver
-Rode NTG-3 (on occasion, I want to break down the rig into a Zacuto shooter style once i order a few more parts for run and gun)

I also want to have a shoulder pad and handles, but can go without starting out. (Though why pay more if they're already included in the Gini.)

My limitations are that I do not have access to a machine shop, just a drill and table saw.

With that in mind, the design itself is very straightforward. A pair of 24in rods will hold the camera, ff, and matte box, with a clamp in the back offsetting the shoulder rig, and then some sort of angled rod holder on each side of the rods facilitating the cage. Clamp on handles are easily found.

What I'd love to hear from you guys is the tips and tricks you've learned building your own rigs, and suggestions on the following kit pieces...

-Baseplate
-Quality/Price level of Berkley System
-Media Halo Rods
-Best way to mount my G3 receiver next to my H4n. (Using articulating arms with 1/4in screws to hold the zoom and dp6)

Thanks,
Devon
