What are good lighting kits for ENG

Hey,

Just working on putting together a Lighting Kit for a new company I am working for that shoots documentaries for TV on an XDCam 355. They have some old Lowel Dp, Omni lights. But I really want to set them up with something more update and easy to work with. I am really likely Arri Softbank D1 Kit, comes with 650, 300, and 150. Seems like it would be a very good light kit for interviews and traveling around with. Just wondering what you guys think, is this worth it for the money, can I get a better deal with other lights, or do you guys have some better ideas for a heap ENG interview lighting set up?

The Arri kit you mention is a good basic kit, but will have some shortcomings. For interviews, you might consider a couple of flows. They are cooler for the crew and talent, take less power, and emit soft light so if close in to the talent you won't need to set up a softbox. You can also switch out the bulbs between 3200k and daylight 5600k so you can use them in a naturally lit room without weirdness.

You might also consider a good quality led for run and gun. I wouldn't use this for anything where I had time to set up something different, but still useful in a pinch.

I really like the Arris, but the main thing they offer at this point is the ability to focus, control spill, and longer throw. Those are BIG shoes to fill, but for interviews, they are slow and hot.

Hey,

yeah I was looking at getting some 2ft Kinos, so I might go that route instead of the Arri kit then. Speaking of LEDs do you know of any good ones to check out for a for a front key light?

Thanks

Again, IMHO, LEDs have limited usefulness. I have a Coollights 600 and for what it is, I really like it, especially since it can run on a battery. But if I had time or power to do anything else, I would.
