o.k. , I just did a test in 24pa, digital squeeze.I have vegas 5 and pinnacle liquid edition 5.5, which is supposed to not be able to ingest 24p video, according to everything i have read.
I brought the video in to liquid in a 16:9 timeline, did a few edits with dissolves and burned a 2 minute demo.everything looked fine to me.I have a 4:3 t.v., the black bars were added by the dvd player.the question is, what the heck am I looking for that is wrong with what I just did?

There's nothing wrong.

You can edit 24pN or 24pA in a 29.97 timeline. The only problem with 24pA is that because of the pulldown cadence, it *might* look a little stuttery. That's MIGHT. It's not guaranteed that it will. And if it does, it will be mild.

because i didnt know where else to ask this question.I am a vegas user as well.SOrry if this is in the wrong thread.Thank you for the answer David.

What David said is, of course, correct -- you can edit 24p footage in any 29.97 timeline.

The thing is, there are advantages to editing it in a 24p timeline. You eliminate all interlace artifacts, you get more efficient compression on the DVD, you can rotoscope a lot more efficiently, you can fit more footage on the DVD, and you can play the footage back on a pure progressive display and it'll look better there.

So while there's nothing wrong with what you did, there *is* a better way, and that's what Vegas 5 offers: the ability to edit the 24p footage as 24P, instead of as 60i (which is what you did).

Just a stupid question: In PAL version, could I edit in 24p mode?, Which Vegas template must I use?
Thank you!

There's no reason to. If you shoot 24p, there's only a 4% difference. Besides, PAL/NTSC conversion is brutal. Stick with PAL.
