WHAT AM I LOOKING AT HERE? (audio missing)

So I have a question for a more experience FCP user out there.

I finished capturing a clip using the 2:3:3:2 pulldown option. The clip plays fine visually, but there is no audible audio. The audio monitor is showing activity as I play the clip, so there is audio there. When I open the clip in the viewer, a weird yellow line shows up at the bottom below the scrub bar. If I click the stereo tab, there's a green line across the top as well. Also when I drag the clip into a 29.97 timeline (which is what it was captured at), there's a pink(ish) line across the audio section of the clip. I have no idea what these lines mean and thought someone here might know and offer a suggestion of how to hear my audio off these clips.

Oh yeah, I also exported a quicktime of the clip out of the timeline and the audio plays fine there. I just can't hear it anywhere in FCP.

Help?

Go into your video and audio settings you can do this by going into your view menu all the way at the bottom you are you are going to see play back settings there you see audio and it will say apple fire wire or apple Dv or something. You need to change that to built in audio if you are not using an IO audio device witch by the sounds your not.

I'll try that. But can you explain to me (and others who want to know) what those yellow, green and pink(ish) lines mean? I've never seen them before and I'm guessing it's indicating something is wrong with the clip, no?

Thanks-

Hi DVX-
No, it's not a caps lock thing. That fills the entire window. I'm talking about being able to see the video (and in recent clips I captured I can now hear the audio), but there's these colored lines in the areas I described.

I took some screen shots of what I'm talking about, but I'm having server problems with my website so I can't host them to post them (bad rhyme). If anyone wants, I can send them in an email if you're willing to help figure this out for me (and the rest of the board).

Much thanks to all-

I can't tell if your problem was solved. If not, maybe this will help:

If capturing using a vtr deck run through a canopus video convetor, make sure it's set to analog I beleive in order to here playback through external speakers. I had this problem before, and that's how it was solved; although I had no green or yellow bars.

Hi abzeleney,
I am capturing through a deck, but I'm doing so via firewire. I'm still trying to figure out what the green and yellow bars mean and whether or not they will mean problems for the online editor when I deliver my media managed project to him.

Hi IMG,
Yeah I'm not talking about in the timeline. I'm talking about in the viewer window. In the timeline, the clip is showing a pink line. I'm now thinking this has something to do with the length and alignment of the captured material on the source clip.

Just don't know how that affects things for me down the road.

Thanks again for the responses.

I have never seen what your talking about but I would think it would effect anything if it plays fine in the view and in the timeline and if you can export a movie with no problems. If there was a prob FCP would let you know when you would go to export so I wouldn't worry about it.
