What about the Oscars Ceremony?

I have done it for several years and it´s always great. I´m able to see the ceremony and write in computer at same time (hey, in Spain starts at 1´30 a.m. and finish around 5 a.m. so it´s hard) and it´s fun to open a new topic and write the coments at the same time as the prizes are going...

Have it been done yet here? would you like to try? Tomorrow is holidays here so i´m gonna have a long, long night... ;D 8)

Re: What about the Oscars Ceremony?

awesome night! ;D

There are no better words to describe this year ceremony!

Even Chris Rock didn´t make it bad, but too much on the people who wasn´t there...

Re: What about the Oscars Ceremony?

where were all the big stars?

I saw Jay-z, p-diddy, oprah, halle berry, and the nominees in the crowd for tonight.

where was speilberg...tom hanks...nicole kidman....catherine zeta jones...sean connery....jack nicholson....etc, etc etc?

I didnt like Chris Rock, he didnt have the charisma and ability to improvise like other hosts.

and I hated how they gave out awards in the aisles and put nominees on stage to save time.

Re: What about the Oscars Ceremony?

I know... For me the best will always be Billy Cristal...

If i go to the insights, the aisles things and the on stage wasn´t appreciate it here also. I mean, the aisle wasn´t all bad if they wanted to keep it fast paced, but to put them over the stage and see their faces, that was bad.

And for the rest, i think they are trying to open to new markets (lots of Spanish and latin, afroamerican, big markets...) and make more audiences. IMO it will loose glamour if they open so much. Jack was a big missed with his big smile, and the big bosses too. But maybe they were there and just decided to let other people appear.

Chris can improvise, for sure. He showed when the Aviator won two in a row, and Sean Penn looked upset (here translators pee on it, it was impossible to hear it in original version and they were too slow, so i didn´t got if Sean was making a joke or if he was seriously annoyed for the Jude Law thing (but it´s true, 2004 he was everywhere...)).

It´s a pity... I haven´t seen the other competitors for short films, but 7:35 a.m. was great (and spanish ::) ) and it deserved it. And i missed Javier Bardem. Amenabar deserved it and got it (glad) and Clint won the best ones (actors, film and director), Jamie was great in both Collateral and Ray, so it was time. I´m quite happy cos it went well.

P.D: Man, Penelope Cruz has been there for more than four years and she still speaks english like crap. And she IS ugly, lucky she had Salma next to her.

Re: What about the Oscars Ceremony?

Interesting...I was digging Penelope and Salma's accents. I could listen to their bad english all day. ;D

Re: What about the Oscars Ceremony?

His intro for them was the best: "You won't be able take your eyes off these next four presenters, Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek."

I think he did a great job. The direction sucked and there were a lot of technical gaffs that should not have happened on a telecast of this scope - Cates and Horvitz maybe tried to spice it up a little too much this year.

When you see an A2 running a mic onstage because they can't get the host's lav up... well, that's amateur hour.

Re: What about the Oscars Ceremony?

I hated that the seating was completely orchestrated around TV camera planning. Each movie had their contingent of people all in a clump. But then some categories had all the nominees lined up so one camera guy could cover them all, and know his mark for that part of the show. So if you were a makeup artist, you couldn't sit with your contingent. It just kept reminding me how orchestrated all of it was.

Re: What about the Oscars Ceremony?

I agree. I didn't like the clumping. And the ceremony never really quite gelled. It was like you could see the strings showing each time. Even the montages seemed sloppy.

Re: What about the Oscars Ceremony?

was it shot on hd as well? no, the oscars never even thought about doing their show on HD nor 24p. MTV movie awards shoot their show on 24p. why not the oscars?.. I think it'll be great. just rambling.

Re: What about the Oscars Ceremony?

I'm sorry...I know this is gonna piss some *old timers* off but....

Billy Crystal Sucks!! He's a "Boring old white Man" that can't even make a "funny" reading a telepromter. I think even Whoopi had more Character and Charisma. I just think Billy Crystal is tired and stale. The Academy's have sucked for the longest time now so I understand their reasoning in hiring younger talent like Chris Rock. Maybe next year we'll see Denis Leary or hell even *Git-er-Done* Larry the Cable guy. Just give me something more watchable than a Kinky-headed Corpse like Billy Crystal. Let the flames begin. ~reservoir~

PS - I am white...and I still Hate Billy Crystal!!

Re: What about the Oscars Ceremony?

Billy Crystal is a comedic genius and anyone who doesn't think so is a flaming piece of....

kidding.:D I thought Billy did a great job at the last oscars he emceed. The oscars are a pretty old and stuffy event, Crystal fit the bill. It is what it is.

Agreed - It's not the MTV awards or Def-Jam... Can't have it too edgy even if it makes it less fun. It is what it is...

Re: What about the Oscars Ceremony?

I just think he's just the kind of Talking head that the Academy wants. For one the Oscars is just a night where all the stars shoe each other in the ass and tell each other how great they are. I think it is cool they they got someone outside the Hollywood *scene* (Although Chris Rock is an actor too) to emcee. Sorry, but I just think Crystal is lame, old, and tired. Just like the Oscars. Independent Spirit Awards anyone?? Now that was a good show. Most of the same actors, but just not the Stale-ass feeling that the Oscars have. My .04 1/2 cents!! ~reservoir~

It sucked and will continue to suck as long as I'm not invited...

Yeah I said it & really do mean it...

bullshit actors bullshit producers, give me a few dvx users a nice budget and im sure I can put together a BLOCKBUSTER

Lebroz i just realized you are totally right! Get a bunch of DVX users and you will have a hell of a team. Probably with a good script it would go blockbuster for sure. Then why the big buzz on budgets? Just because 35mm is nicer. It´s so easy to be part of this 9% who get distribution i can even feel it...

And what is a good budget? i will be more than happy with 50.000 $, man. I haven´t seen this money in my life! Even half would be great!

If Clerks was done with 27.000 and nearly everything went for cam, edit and 35mm related things, if we get rid of it it´s a darn good money to play with.

And for the Billy thing, i grow with him. It´s just an opinion and i will love him forever. I would throw Jack Nicholson to present the Oscars and see what happens! Everybody will be scare as hell to go up the stage!

Don't forget about everybody's favorite Red Herring film to mention in regards to budget......El Mariachi........7 thousand dollars on 16mm. You'd be hard pressed to find a indie film forum on the internet where it isn't mentioned. Yes, Clerks was great for 27k. Hell anything under 50 is a damn feat in and of itself. Maybe one day we'll have a collaborative DVXuser.com effort on a feature film. Everybody chip in money and time and scripts and blah, blah, blah......and Viola.....A film that could make Hollywood shutter at our might. Pipe dream? Who knows. ~reservoir~
