Hi,
I'm interested buy a shotgun micro. I've got the sennheiser ME66.
Two years ago I bought a schoeps Mk41, for indoor mic (almost for dialogue).
Now for a new shotgun (outdoors), I was thinking in the sennheiser 416 or AT4073a, but I've seen the new Schoeps CMIT 5U. Someone has tried it?
I need some advice in those three shotguns. Thanks. ;)

1) the cmit is in a much higher price bracket than the 416 or especially the 4073a.
2) you have left out the Sanken CS-3e, one of the most popular high level shotguns around (after the 416 of course).

there arent many cmits here in SA yet, and ive only played with a demo one for a few minutes, so I couldnt say too much on that, but dont leave out the 416.

If you have the money, the CS-3e is better than the 416, and the 416 is better than the 4073a.

Cheers,
Tim

I worked with that blue shoeps once. it is very directional leaves almost all side noises. Works better than my mkh60

The CMIT is without doubt the best shotgun out there. The controversy starts over if it that much better then the ones directly below to justify the huge price leap. Opinions vary. Really think the only way to decide for yourself is to test them all out personally.

Call your pro audio shop and let them know what you want to do. You can probably work out a pretty cheap deal for renting the mics for a day or two if they know they will get a sale out of it.

Cheers

My CMIT 5U experience - Colorado

My CMIT 5U experience - Colorado

Just finished a three day shoot in Colorado for a PBS doc and for the artist's promo marketing (HVX/firestore).

Studio shoot, so we had pretty good control over ambient stuff. (artist's studio in Pagosa Springs)

Tight and wide shots - the CMIT was in a hugely different league from the ME66 - Better?

Hell yes it's "better"........ sweet, smooth, warm, and VERY intimate for a shotgun.

$1200 US better? only your wallet can answer that one, but I think so.

All the best,

i keep thinking about getting one off the cmit 5u

who on here has spent enough time with both the cmit 5u and the cs3 to give us a real world comparisson???

some of this stuff is the sort of thing where if you were able to do a true blind comparison where you have no physical/visual way of knowing if you are listening to an oktava mk012 or a schoeps cmc6/mk41

i know the concept of doing an A/B audition but when i have talked to people who have done that they always were able to plainly know which one was which and i am a big believer in our minds confusing what we hear etc.

then there are some things that once you get them you really wish you had gotten them sooner.

when i got the schoeps it was hard to really tell how much better it was until i was on a real shoot and then i could hear a difference but the biggest difference was when i bought the cut-1 and added that to the equation.

although that is a hell of a jump, buying a filter that costs over $500 even when the microphone (cmc6/mk41) costs well over $1,000

i finally sucked it up and got a schoeps cmc6/mk41 a month or so ago and i absolutely love it and wish i had gotten it much sooner.

for a shotgun i still have my 416 and i love it but i want to get my hands on a cmit 5u and try it out.

they are in VERY short supply. when i was at gotham a couple months ago and they didn't even have one i could try out. all of their rental ones were out and they said they are really hard to get.

i guess they sell out their entire production of them each year.

if you order one then your dealer will probably get it but i doubt you will be able to just walk into anywhere and find one in stock.
