What a bad day...

In fact, I think your cam is secretly enjoying that you are so upset about it. It's probably just LOVING the attention, but believe me, it is NOT effected by any means in its performance to deliver.

Now take a good night's rest...and shoot something nice in the morning.
Finally, the voice of reason...

Wise words indeed!

I know your camera's gotta be your precious... but if you think about this whole situation, it could inspire a movie or a character in one of your movies. . .
Do some test shots, and hopefully it will be fine

Mr. The Llama,
I really have to tell you this straight, for you're own good: there's NOTHING wrong with your cam!
You'd be amazed what this cam can take. It has been used and abused by MANY on here in all sorts of horrible situations....it's been dropped, subjected to salt water, heat, humidity, cold, amazing g-forces, vibrations, etc, etc., and meanwhile turning out stunning results.
Some tiny scratches on the lens won't even bother this cam one iota, I tell you.

this is true. some people on this forum spend more time obsessing about this cam than they do making movies.... don't believe the hype. they will tell you that after market betteries will burn it up, that using different brands of tape will trash the heads, never use it around smoke, etc.

i asked the guy at the rental shop if he ever had any problems with his dvx's he rents out and he said, he just cleans the heads whenever the red x shows up and no problems. you gotta think that his dvx's are used way more than any of ours and with all kinds of tapes and bounced around and all the abuse that rental gear normally endures. the dvx is after all a professional grade camera designed to withstand commercial use....

you're all good.

If you do have a scratch on the lens make sure you never shoot completely wide. Zooming in should make the scratch soft enough not to show up on footage.
Mark the zoom ring with some tape or a wax pencil at the point where the scratch disappears and never go past it when shooting for someone.
