What 4x4 filters to purchase?

I would like to purchase a couple of 4x4 glass filters to be used with my dvx100 and Chorizel mattbox with the Anamorpic. I have a budget of $1000 for filters and no current filters. Could someone make a recommendation as to which filters I should start with. I intend to shoot shorts and hope to use them someday on features. I would rather purchase fewer of the better filters and add more as I can aford them. Also does anyone know of a good book or article on the use of filters. Thanks

$1000 for filters?--I like the sound of that. Why don't you get Jarred's filter test DVD before buying anything--but here are some suggestions.

UV
Polarizer
ND Grad 0.6
ND Grad 0.9
ND Grad 1.2
Antique Suede
ProMist/SoftMist of your choice

You could start with one of the Filter Kits from Tiffen or Schneider (i believe they include 3 or 4 of the most commonly needed filters), and then get what's not included, that may make your cash go further.

Firstly - does your Chrozeil mattebox cover the wide end of the lens in anamorphic or does it vignette ? You may need 6" filters.

Either way my filter kit suggestion is simply:

Polariser
Set of ND Grads - use in rotating mattebox - (better if rectangular 4x6")
Selvette cleaning cloth - keep your filters pristine due to extreme D.O.Field in DVX

Many of the rest of the filters can be easily achieved in post but I think the above are essential to have in your kit.
