B&H had a dealzone deal on the Sennheiser Esfera 5.1 Complete Surround System. It normally sells for $10k and the deal was for $3K ($7K off). How is this possible?! The mics (essentially two mkh 8040s) are prectically $3k on their own. Is the 5.1 processor totally obsolete? I was going to buy it for the sake of it but then realized its selling for 4.5k on ebay so thought maybe something was too good to be true.

It may be that it is being discontinued.

Or it may be that there is a law suit pending as I thought soundfield had the patent on the processor etc.

To be honest any 5.1 processing of an A/B signal is a huge compromise and $3k is probably about the right price level for this anyway as you can buy plug ins to do it in post for far less.
