Whale Wars - Animal Planet

Has anyone been watching this season of Whale Wars on Animal Planet?

It's a great show this year, I have no affiliation with it (and don't know anyone involved with it) but they really upped their game on the production side.

It's nice to see a well made show about a good cause (saving something, not taring it down or catching something to kill it or watching the forest disappear).

Is it just me or do you guys like this show?

Anyone here have any thoughts on it?

The first episode reminded me of deadliest catch until I understood the cause and paid more attention to it, anyway, It's growing on me, I have tivo'd the last 3 episodes.

Absolutely.
I caught a couple of episodes of this last week when I was out of town - flipping channels in the hotel room and it immediately grabbed my attention. Incredibly well shot show, but moreso I thought they did a great job of putting the story together. I mean, this isn't fast moving material... yet the show was very gripping.

Makes me wish I had cable so I could watch the rest of it.
:)

Are we talking about the same show? I've seen a few episodes from seasons past and it reeked of melodrama. The captain was insane.

I guess they stepped it up in the new season.

If it's legal I'll send you down my tivo to watch this season on your tv as long as I get it back. It's very well put together man, I did find out the budget with a little research (not going to say it) but it's a LOT SMALLER that you guys would think.

Indeed they did step it up, the point of my post, I can;t believe how it is a well shot show now with good story structure (for a reality show).

Agreed.

Agreed.
On one episode after a short battle with a Japanese ship the captain casually opens his jacket to reveal a bullet in his flak jacket. "The Japanese shot the captain!", they shouted. The whole thing was so horribly contrived it was nauseating to watch. I'm certain that in the captain's mind this little skit was going to look at great at the next fund raiser.

While the contrived melodrama is ruining the show. Whale Wars does shed light the whaling issue that has been out of sight and out of mind for much of the planet.

Larry King had the Whale Wars crew on CNN tonight. LARYY F#N' KING! & BOB BARKER!

This was some sweet tv in my hood tonight.

Never watched an episode of Whale Wars but saw the hilarious South Park.

Decided to check out the most recent shows and definitely agree that it's well edited. Not a lot happens on the show but they keep you interested the entire time. Similar to Deadliest Catch in that aspect.

Actually, some times the Sea Shepherd crew seem directed and almost like they're acting. As if they're "re-creating" something that the cameras missed. Either that or some of the crew are just not comfortable with a camera in their face so they smile or look stiff.

It's now on my "to watch" list so I guess that means I like it.

When I was a kid I fantasized about doing the kind of stuff these guys do.

There's something to be said for bringing a childish fantasy into the real world.
