I'm stuck inside, not able to go on my morning run, because the air is very smoky outside. In Israel, every spare scrap of wood gets burned in bonfires during the holiday of Lag B'Omer. Last nights' fires, combined with this morning's fog, has made using an oxygen tank while running mandatory.
So I was wondering what people listen to while exercising. If it's music, which tunes do the trick? Audiobooks, anyone? I have found NPR podcasts to be sufficiently distracting. A good Fresh Air guest helps me attain and, remain in, "autopilot." Cartalk is entertaining but can lead to laughter. This American Life can also quickly get me in "the zone."
However, there are many times music is the only ear candy that can properly motivate. Tunes like Eye of the Tiger and Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now are obvious choices but what else are people using?
