Went to DV Expo West Today

Serious sensory overload! I was checking out the DV Rack demo, it does look very cool. Get a G-Media Firewire 800 drive and a laptop in you're in business! I'm getting a Powerbook soon though, now I'll have to decide on DV Rack or not. Or get a pc laptop too just for running DV Rack. I was like a kid in a candy store. I saw the new Sony Hi Def cam (no playback, just viewing on a monitor). When panning there was tiny, yet perceptible stutters, but the picture quality looked really nice. I'll try to remember what else I saw, but it was quite a blur!

I was at the DVExpo today too. Went to the XL2 workshop; it was the weirdest thing. There were a bunch of guys talking about how they shot the 'demo' footage that's playing in the Canon booth. Half of it didn't make sense. This guy David who said he was the DP on the shoot said that they transfered the DV footage optically using 4:2:2 to Digitbeta. I tried to ask him what he was talking about since the XL2 doesn't do 4:2:2, right? But he was too surrounded with adoring fans to answer the questions. Then I went down to talk with the FCP guys, and they said it was impossible. No such thing as optical 4:2:2 from the XL2. Does anybody have a clue as to what he's talking about?
