Welland ME600 OTG drive; What partition format to use?

I know a few of you have this usb 2.0 OTG drive so here goes.

I have a pc, the OTG drive has 55.8 accessible GBs. I will use it to dump my 8GB p2 card straight from the camera. I wouldn't mind using FAT32 but many people say it won't work properly when using more than 32GB partitions. The 4GB filesize limit could also worry me under some circumstances.

1. Is the HVX able to dump directly to a drive with the HFS+ Mac format?

Now here's a PC/Macdrive question. I have been able to format the drive HFS+ but it won't show up in "my computer". I uninstalled daemon tools and alcohol (because of the SPTD conflict) but still have no luck. Suggestions?

Thanks

Ian

Forgot to ask... here's an important one.

What are people's experiences with and without file checking their data?

  1. The HVX only supports FAT32.
  2. The HVX does not support dumping to USB OTG drives, only SBP2-compliant Firewire drives.
  3. If you use a USB OTG drive, the drive itselfs pulls the file off the HVX, and the file system used by the OTG drive doesn't matter.
  4. If your material is important to you and you have the opportunity to verify, I would always do so.

Wow, thanks THoff.

So if I'm not going to be using the drive with a mac I should just use NTFS?

So if the OTG drive is just pulling the files that would mean I would not be able to use the file check function anyway? (the HVX wouldn't really be doing anything except allow the files to transfer?).

If you have a PC, use either FAT32 or NTFS. None of the files from the HVX will exceed the file size limit of FAT32 since that is what the camera uses natively. If NTFS really is an option with that drive, I would use that -- it is more robust than FAT32.

USB OTG drives usually have their own verification function that can be used to confirm that the files were transferred successfully.
