Well time for a new TV

I'm really looking at a 42" Vizio 1080p 120Hz LCD. Vizio seems to get good reviews. Better than what Sony gets. Anyone have this brand?

Yes. I have a 42" 720P from a few years ago. Bought it at Costco.

I'm not super picky, so I've been fairly happy with it, with a few problem areas:

1. It emits a low buzzing noise, could be caused by the backlit display. The noise is intermittent.

2. Sometimes when I turn it on, I get sound, but no picture. 'Turn it off, turn it on again' seems to be the solution.

3. There are areas of "splochiness" in portions of the screen, IE, it's not true black. If the subject matter is night or a dark room, it is apparent. Again, a lot of that has to do with that stupid backlight, but the more you turn it down, the louder the buzzing gets.

All that said, my set is almost 3 years old (I think?) They've probably done some nice upgrades since then. The ones I see on display in Costco look awesome, and these days they're practically giving TVs away.

Is it 60hz or 120hz? They ones I saw at Wal-Mart looked really good. Going to shop around on friday.
I was told the Samsung TVs are good too. Good chance I'll get a Sony too.

If you get a TV with 120 Hz, make sure it can be disabled, else all your movies will look like live video.

Really can't beat a Samsung for the price. I own 2 of them. Both were dead on correct when I ran color bars thru them. I use a 19" one as my preview HDTV monitor. Check out this one http://www.walmart.com/Samsung-40-LCD/ip/10980685 its on sale for $714.00 . Before I had my Samsung preview monitor I tried 2 Vizios but returned them. Could not get good blacks on them and there was light bleed at the top of both.

I just got a Panasonic 42" Viera 720p plasma for under $600 SHIPPED from Amazon. Hard to beat that. Picture and features are terrific, my only complaint would be that there's almost no stereo separation on the speakers; if you're going to be running a sound system that's no issue, though.
