Well Hello there from the upside down country!!

Hello there everyone,
In case you didn't realise from the title, i currently live in the ye'olde colony of Australia...
I'm rather new here [hense the introduction thread:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)]
i am very much the amateur, but i am working towards cinematography as career
i'm sure you've seen this too many time before, but i have done some quick little films that are up on youtube, so if you wouldn't mind taking a look at them it would be great, here the link: http://www.youtube.com/user/TeaAndBiscuitFilms

Welcome to the forum Dom, not sure about the Tea and Biscuits as personally I like to blow the froth off a few tinnies.

I am sure you might know this but you need to get the mic off the camera and closer to the guitar on the jetty so we can hear it more clearly.

Good luck with your career and there are some nice shots and composition on your videos.

haha, I can completely understand the Gary.
Yeah, I realised that when i came to editing it all up, unfortunetly i am having to make do with a canon camcorder at the moment, and Canon in their infinite wisdom narrowed the hot shoe so you could only use their own ext. mircrophone which connect to the camera through the hot, meaning i can't remove it from the camera to reposition it.
I am planning how ever to acuire a GH3 within the next few months and then ill be able to use off camera mics.
Thanks for the advice and compliments,
Dom Elsome

Which canon camcorder are you using?

I have a canon Hf11 which I find great for most non pro shooting and it even has a 1/4" mic input so I can plug my sony 907 or 957 stereo M/S mics in or even a sennheiser radio mic.

Know what you mean about that mini hot shoe as mine also has that and it is real pain if you wish to mount a light as I need an adaptor!

It's the Canon Legria HF M52, it captures some amazing footage for what it is, but it records to AVCHD which is a bit of a pain.
How do you find the sennheiser mic? it's just that im in the process of buying a GH3 and im not sure whether to go with Rode or Sennheiser.

Sennheiser G3 radio mics are great and good value as for a shotgun mic I personally use the AT875R but it needs phantom power so a Rode NTG2 or an AT897, sennheiser also make a shotgun system but it is a lot more money.

I would think an NTG2 with a PG2 grip and a WS/6 or 7 softie would be a good start as it is best to have the mic off the camera and near to the sound source, I prefer the sound of AT mics and the AT875R is now my std short shotgun mic.

My HF11 records AVCHD too but I find that its 1920x1080 28mbs codec very good quality and final cut pro re-wraps it as pro res LT so I do not have problems with it once it is in the edit system.

It is always better to transcode AVCHD for editing and if you are on a MAC a company called ClipWrap do a utility to do this for you if needed: http://www.divergentmedia.com/clipwrap
