Well done short.

That was pretty good. It had a City of God feel. I have actually been in that town and can say that it is very similar to what was shown.

At first I thought you guys were giving this one too much credit... but it got me and I couldn't stop watching until the end. The location definitely helped... and those kids were good... really everybody was good.

I would have preferred that the "shaky cam" had a little more randomness to it... the cinematographer used an oscillating technique to impart the "you are there" hand-held feel... but the patten of it gets too controlled during a few scenes... as if he were using a preset loop in Shake.

If I said what I liked most about the story... and what I liked least about it... then I'd be spoiling it for the next guy. But let me just say that I like how the elements tied together... although one of the boy's last lines seemed a little off to me because his questioning thought comes right after the other guy's answer to the question.

STILL... the fact that the short HAS these questions and answers is what makes it a good story.

I think there's some lessons in this for everybody... this short was composed of several building blocks that are engaging for the audience... even though they are basic elements, they keep you focused on the advancing story. As this thread grows and we start spoiling the storyline I'll make my point... but they are individual "props" that simultaneously distract and hypnotize you. If you think of the objects that come to mind in memory of the short you'll get my point... it had a brilliant use of objects filling in any chance of a crack.

Brilliantly put together.
MattinSTL has some very good points, particularly about the shakycam.
None the less, very good.
