Welcome to the low budget era!

I 've seen 0 budget music videos before but never on MTV! What makes this even crazier is the fact that
this song has made it into the top 10 hits of the month here in Australia, ahead or Rhianna, Katy Perry, Usher
and other mega stars!

Got nothing against low budgets, mind you as long as they try to show something! This looks to me like the
camera man decided to go for it himself , hit rec, and did his thing!

Dude, the Black Keys are the sh*t!!! I doubt very seriously that this was a zero budget video. Of course it didn't cost much, but the simple DIY aesthetic is not new in music videos.

Moby "Body Rock"

Fatboy Slim "Praise You"

Both of those videos got a lot of air play on MTV.

The mvideo for OK GO! 'Here It Goes Again' was the beginning for me. Was a great idea with good choreography. Shot on a garbage camera and horrible lighting.

But just because video's with amazing ideas and no visual flare exist doesn't mean the age of great ideas and visuals is over. It just proves the idea > the image and sometimes, 'real' trumps romaticized reallity.

Okay, so the original video got scrapped and this is all that remains. That explains it. Fun clip mind you, but hardly memorable.

From the http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread...eys-Lonely-Boy thread:

"But the decision to run it as is was correct as it went viral immediately, receiving 600,000 hits in just two days, & over two million to date."

I think it might be much more memorable than a lot of bloated videos costing much, much more money. The "Accidental" nature of the video is, IMHO, the essence of creativity and what it takes to tap into ... I hate to use the word, but I think it is appropriate here, the zeitgeist of the moment.

Hit stats don't mean much these days, especially on youtube. Views are always gonna be high when a popular band / artist is involved.

Well, yeah, but... I heard somewhere that the video did not just generated Youtube hits:

The Black Keys are a popular band... but I think that is not the only reason this video went viral so fast. It is that a popular band would choose to release such a simple, but effective video. The more I watch the more I am convinced of really how good it is. Simple is sometimes the best way to go. I think they really nailed it with this video.
