I haven't seen much discussion of what people's experiences have been like with the new After Effects CS3 public beta, but I've been having a weird issue with 24pa footage that has already had advanced pulldown removed. I log & capture in FCP with advanced pulldown removal. Then when I bring shots into AE CS3, if I just drag them onto the new comp button, it creates a comp that is 19.18fps. If I go into the interpretation dialogue, it's treating the clip as if it needed another round of pulldown removed, and it's also deinterlacing it. Needless to say, it looks like crap.
If I manually change it to 23.98fps, and set field dominance to none, then you would think I'd get a nice, clean 24p timeline. The timeline is indeed 24p, but there's still something wrong with how it's rendering the footage. It seems like every few frames, AE is drawing an 'in between' frame, almost like it's interpolating a missing frame a la the pixel motion slow-mo option. This has me really mystified as to what could be going on - this is footage that works fine under After Effects 7.
Has anyone had the same problem? I'm guessing it's something they'll fix in the next release of the beta, but it's a pretty glaring issue that makes AE CS3 basically useless to me since I'm always shooting 24pa.
