Weird vertical lines...(not interlacing)

Same project again, different problems, thought it was better to make new threads...hope you agree mods.

Footage = 24AP DV NTSC 16:9 squeeze / 24AP 4:3 DV NTSC / 24p (some lurking)

this seems to be a problem across the board on the different clips

SOME of the footage has this weird look where you can see vertical lines...or even large cubes (pixels?). It seems to happen a lot with things that are over exposed. I will try to post an example. I've noticed it both on the squeeze and 4:3, and tried pulling the footage into different editing timebase to rule out the possibility of compression. My gut feeling is its just something that happens with the DVX100 when its overexposed? I don't know if there are other over exposed clips that have this problem. It does appear in some clips that aren't particularly over exposed as well.

What can we do?

Thanks

Keen to see a screen grab of this - might be Moire effect happening?? Hard to say without an example though :)

the lines appear during movement and still shots, and on every frame, they don't seem to change frame-frame if you flick through one at a time.

Looks like DV compression artifacts to me (Red colours = bad for DV) but I'm most used to seeing them around the edges as opposed to right through the subject...
Here's hoping some experts chime in on this!

Are these grabs from the canvas? As that is a low rez proxy. I have some clips that look like this in the canvas but they don't have the look when rendered out.

Make sure your viewer and canvas are set to 100percent, anything else and the scaling that fcp does can cause weird artifacts like this.

Does it do the same thing if you export the video and view it in quicktime?

Nope those are jpegs made from the timeline. I tried rendering parts and it still looks the same. yes canvass is 100%.

I agree that it looks like the normal problems DV has with reds (and purples since it contains red) and edges between light and dark areas. Most recommendations I've seen are to apply a chroma smooth filter, although I personally haven't had much luck with the ones built into FCP.
