weird ticking sound coming from camera?

I just bought a new camera, and every time I tilt the camera up and down, I hear a ticking sound coming from inside the camera... it sounds like a plastic part might be loose inside or something, it's quite a noticeable noise...

Just wondering, has anyone noticed a similar problem with your camera? Or do I have a defective camera...?

That is the image stablization unit...Dont worry!! Every person who owns the camera has the same sound. If you notice the sound only happens when the camera is off. When it is on the Stablization unit is engaged... ;D

That happended to someone I knew and it turned out the Zoom Lens had dislodged inside and was loose. Took him 13 weeks to get it shipped, serviced and then sent back.

It could be that the OIS is broken. Sounds like a click clack when you tip it to and fro? Yeah. Thats it.



















Oh just kidding. Its normal. It is the OIS but it is all good. It is just turned off and not gyrating or spinning! Youre fine. :D

Given how many times this question is asked, whether by people who either don't read the manual before pulling out the camera (can't blame you there, it's more fun to just get the camera up and running!), don't read the manual to find out if the clicking is normal, or that simply miss the brief mention in the manual about the OIS click, Panasonic should just print the info in big red letters on the cover of the user manual. And maybe the box the camera comes in as well. :)

Wait... does it kinda sound like a pinball loose inside there? If so, that's the film gate and shutter mechanism flopping around. It happened on some of the later model 100A's, and Panasonic isn't fixing them. They're saying you're on your own. Bummer, huh?

mine made that sound.. when i looked into the lense to see what was wrong it essplodeded me! so then i was essplodeded, and it hurt.. but i got better. so dont look in there cause there are creatures that will essplode you...and you will be sad. :'( cause the dvx is not like a biggger fish but more like a charm from a fence.. or maybe when the loot from the bank is under the OIS it will be like butter and i will fly again. smooth and 24p like the FPS in my NLE of the netherworld...

ha ha.. yes, I must admit I thought the same thing, its one of those things you notice as soon as you take the camera out of the box. I think it took me 2 days before I even looked at the manual after I got the camera.

I see this answer in the manual now, the very last entry in the Troubleshooting Q&A section. Yeah, you'd think that Panasonic would put this somewhere in the BEGINNING of the manual since this is the first thing people notice when they take the camera out.

I agree with Stas_Tagios to put it stamped in big red stencils on the box. Or maybe the UPS dude can just give a verbal on it?

I was one of the few who was fortunate enough (Thanks to Jarred and DVX) to know in advance that what I would hear would be normal. But like David says "Fair game. It's just initiation." Next is chicks underwear and a grease pole.

I think awhile back someone said there was a sticker on thier new camera that said the clicking was normal.. maybe they started to put that on there on the last of the original DVX's.

I mean, honestly, if you didnt know about this forum, and you got the camera and didnt read the manual, I becha you would phone Panasonic. I wonder how many phone calls they got about that?

I have a vague recollection of  a sticker, or something like that, now that you mention.  Got my first one in June. It's a "B" serial number, so it wasn't THAT late of a build. Hmmm.

A good way to fix the ticking sound is to push really hard on the Leica lens...Leica is German for "ticking lens" ;D

P.S. This was just a joke, do not touch the lens. Unless you want "the film look"

I have that same list, but it has margaritas listed as well... :-)
