Weird 'Quotation Mark' Issue

Why don't my quotation marks display correctly? I have had this problem in Vegas 6 and Vegas 8...on two different computers. Is there a patch I need to install? Thanks.

I presume you were wanting 'curly' punctuation marks, different at start and end? Try creating the text in your word processor program in the correct font and showing the required punctuation, then copying and pasting that text into Vegas - that has fixed a few odd formatting problems for me. In this particular case, I believe the 'straight' and 'curly' symbols are completely separate in the font data, your problem is that Vegas doesn't know the difference when you press the quote key on your keyboard, as opposed to Microsoft word for example where you can specify how you want your quotes to look. But as Eugenia says, it does also depend on the particular font you're using.

I lied! Just tried it, and 'curly' quotes look correct when pasted into the Text Media Generator's edit screen but the output screen shows 'straight' quotes. That was with Times New Roman or Arial - I'd presume all fonts would do the same. Bizarre...

thanks guys! I appreciate the help. It is/was my understanding that both sets of quotation marks are supposed to slant inward. The first set of quotation marks on the left, should be inward rather than outward slanting, the quotation marks on the right are displayed correctly. It's always the quotation marks on the left that I have issues with. Any other suggestions and or fixes are appreciated. Cheers!

Whether they 'slant' or are 'curly' is down to the individual font - your issue is getting Vegas to display opening quotes and closing quotes as their correct separate characters, when as we've seen it's determined to instead always display the generic quote character :(

For a simple title, the obvious workaround is to create the text as a .png file in Photoshop/Paintshop/whatever and then bring that into Vegas. But that won't help if you were wanting something fancy like scrolling credits...
