Weird Question: Can you paint a Fuzzy windscreen (Deadcat) without degrading it?

I would assume yes, if I just do a little spray paint...but thought I would ask before I mess it up if you can't. Lol.

For Example I want to paint something like this that comes with my Mic.

And make it look like this:

Can I just do that with spraypaint? Just lightly mist it until it gets dark?

I know it is a weird question, but I work in the Outdoors and the gray can be spotted really easily :p If I have to I will just buy a black one, but thought this would be easier if it doesn't degrade quality :) Thanks for any help!

NOOOO! Paint will destroy the wind noise reduction properties and render it pretty much useless.

It is made of hair (or synthetic fiber that resembles hair).
So use hair dye that comes in dozens of shades, natural and artificial.

Be the first with a pink one.

There is a caveat however. Do a test first on a small patch. I had one of those Indian hairy covers three years ago that was VERY bright grey - and stood out too much, and I decided to dye it. I put the solution in a bowl, and soaked the cover overnight. Followed the instructions and hung it up to dry. No colour change whatsoever. I think the fibres must have been man made and non-porous, because although the inside mesh the hairs were attached to changed colour, the colour of the hairs themselves didn't alter. I'm assuming they must be nylon or something simlar, and self coloured. A small test would prove this.

Haha, thanks guys! I will try and dye it and see what happens! Hopefully it will work, would rather spend $10 than $70 :p

Lol don't know if I'm good enough at dyeing to do a camo pattern, but I'll look at doing it... Maybe my wife can help haha

Think this might work? Lol... has to be hair dye, huh?

Most of those are made out of synthetic "fur", so I don't know how well they would take to hair dye. If you end up clogging the fibers, then you'll ruin it. Do a small section near the back as a test.

Crap! I tried to hair dye it but it won't hold. Just washes right off. Left in on there even for double the time, and still no go...I really need it for this weekend, and other ideas?? Lol

Dear B,

You seem to be in a real bind.

I would attempt to get some netting, or loose fabric, or speaker cloth, and make a removable covering for your windscreen.

You may be able to rig up something that works for you. Please be careful that it does not make any sound by rubbing against the windscreen.

Respectfully,

You could always try a dye meant for synthetics. They make them for things like vinyl.
