Weird problem with DVHScap

Hi all,

I'm having some frustrations using DVHScap, the firewire capture utility included in Apple's Firewire SDK. It sees the camera fine, interprets timecode correctly, all that jazz...

But for whatever reason, it stops capturing at -exactly- 4 megs short of 4 gigs:

4 gigs =
4,294,967,296 bytes
captured files =
4,293,918,720 bytes
difference =
1,048,576 bytes
difference in octal =
4,000,000
I'm scratching my head. I have plenty of hard drive space, the camera seems to be working fine, it just stops capturing. It doesn't even give an error message. I might be inclined to say the size difference is coincidental, but it's repeatable! Time after time, 3,996 megs.

If any geniuses on the board care to help me out with this, I'd be extremely grateful!

Well off hand I think 4gigs is the QT file size limit. There are also file size limits with various disk formats. A FAT32 formated drive (most out of the box firewire drives) is I believe 2 gigs. So I suspect your hitting somethings file size limit. The difference of four megs is probably a house keeping buffer, which would make me lean toward a hardware limit somewhere but that is a guess.
